Your new home should reflect your personality, character and style. A beautiful home is a home that is beautiful to its owner.
Below are some helpful "tricks of the trade" from our professional interior designers.
Tip 1
The biggest thing is to make sure that the house has a natural "flow" to it; this is done by making sure that colors and materials have common elements from one room to another.
Tip 2
Don't be afraid to use color. Colors can be soothing or exciting, bold or subtle. Whether you use warm tones or cool tones, color adds personality and flair. So go out on a limb, you might
just be glad you did!
Tip 3
It's easier to keep your finish materials neutral and add color and personality with your accents; it's a lot easier and cheaper to change accents when you get tired of them than
it is to remodel a kitchen or bathroom.
Tip 4
Keep the walls simple and undecorated until you have all of your furniture moved in; this keeps the rooms from seeming cluttered.
Tip 5
If you are buying new furniture, measure your room and the furniture. Make sure there is enough space to comfortably walk around your furniture.
Tip 6
Mix and match different styles (ie, contemporary, modern, etc). The key is that they blend well together.
Tip 7
Colors can be used to affect the illusion of space: Light color schemes give the illusion of more space; warm colors give an illusion of a smaller space; cool color tones make a room
seem more open.
Tip 8
Area rugs make rooms feel cozy, especially on floors made of concrete, tile or stone. Rotate your rug /carpet on a quarterly basis to even out the wear and tear.
Tip 9
Hang pictures at eye level; hanging them up too high makes your ceiling height seem shorter
Tip 10
Before you paint a room, test a small patch of paint on the wall. Typically the color sample looks brighter and/or darker on a wall.
